Sophie

We spoke to Writer, Art Director and Tarot Reader, Sophie Clark about her jewellery stories. Equipped with a disposable camera, she took us on a day in her life.

  1. Tell us about yourself
Hi! I’m Sophie. I’m your classic down-to-mars girl, curious about life and how we navigate it. With Art Direction, I help brands create a visual narrative around what they do and who they are. As a writer, I explore dating, sex and relationships through the lens of psychology. I then do a combination of both those things as a Tarot Reader. I create space for others to explore life’s inevitable themes using the symbolism of the cards and my intuition as a tool. It’s a collaborative process between me, the client and the cards. I guess my purpose is to be both understood and understand others through communication and visualisation. I can see myself as an Art Therapist one day but I currently have enough plates spinning.
  2. What drew you to tarot reading?
Psychology and curiosity. I’ve always asked the big questions but at times have found them impossible to answer. Because Tarot is so visual and symbolic, it quickly became a tool for me to talk about myself and whatever I had going on at the time. When you have the cards laid out in front of you - a physical representation of what’s on your mind - it’s easier to relate to. It’s like talking about yourself in the third person and seeing yourself from a different perspective.
  3. Can you give us tarot reading basics - are there good and bad cards?
Tarot is structured in a series of delicate dualities. So each card has two meanings - the surrounding cards, their position in the spread and what you as a client bring to the table, then creates the context for the reading. The cards pulled for you are a reflection of your current thoughts and emotions. I then interpret the cards and work with you to form your story so you get a sense of clarity, purpose and direction.
  4. Pull a cards for us - what do you see in Daphine's future?
The Magician - a Major Arcana card - when these cards are pulled it’s a sign of a big milestone in ones life. The Magician is the card of manifestation. What do you want to bring into your reality? The Magician has all the tools at his table and so do you. He points a wand to the sky, whilst the other hand points to the ground. ‘As above, so below’. In other words, think big - the bigger the better. Right now Daphine is magnetic and has the ability to create whatever vision desired.
  5. If you could only wear one thing ever again, what would it be and why?
I have a black velvet dress which has floaty ruffled trims on the cuffs and hem. It’s my favourite thing to wear and it swishes about when I move. And it has pockets for all my trinkets. It’s my go-to dress for feeling good.
  6. What is your first jewellery memory?
My first jewellery memory is my Dad’s signet ring. It’s gold and scripted with ‘CC’ - his initials - engraved to the front. I’ve never seen him without it.
  7. Is there a piece of jewellery that is particularly special to you? If yes, why?
This is hard. I take pride in my loyalty - but especially when it comes to jewellery. I’ve worn some pieces everyday for the last ten years and think very hard about new pieces that come into the rotation. I have a glass locket which my parents gifted me one birthday - it has a tiny emerald inside which is my birth stone.
  8. Who are women who inspire you in your life?
Lots! Nora Ephron, who has turned life’s set backs to her success - all with a side serving of humour to make her point. Her mantra ‘everything is copy’ has always stayed with me. Not to mention we pretty much have her to thank for the ‘90s rom-com. The dualities of Alice Coltrane and how she can translate the complexities of spirituality and universal cosmos into music that still feels like it has one foot on Earth. Imagine being able to make something so other-worldly, so relatable? Blows my mind! And my Mum for her patience, optimism and love of life - no matter what.
  9. How would you describe your style?
    I wouldn't - I literally have no idea.
  10. When you think of Daphine what comes to mind?
    Timeless, sentimental and confident.
  11. What are some of the lessons you have learned over the last year?
Make the leap and trust the net will appear. Because it always will one way or another.

TIPS & TRICKS

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably, snug enough so that it will not fall off but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance.

For best results measure your finger size at the end of the day and when your fingers are their largest.

Don’t measure when your body temperature is either too cold or too hot. Only measure when fingers are at room temperature.

If you hesitate between two sizes, always go with the larger one.

If you are purchasing a wide band, you will be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement.
