DaphineDays

We spoke to London based CEO and Creative Director Abisola Omole about her jewellery stories. Equipped with a disposable camera, she took us on a day in her life.

  1. Tell us about yourself
My name is Abisola, I’m 28. I have a LOT of interests from film to interior design to skincare and I’m currently making my way through the studio Ghibli film catalogue for the 4th or so time, as the movies bring me so much happiness. Oh & I’m the CEO & Creative Director of The Apārtment, a digital & creative agency; arva, a contemporary lifestyle brand and studio arva, an interior styling & design led studio.
  2. How did you get started in interior design?
I’ve been in the events industry for almost a decade and in the early days we would use furnished spaces and then slowly but surely we transitioned to using completely empty spaces that we had to furnish & decorate from scratch. A lot of the spaces we were designing had a “an apartment like vibe” and so I inadvertently started designing living spaces but for events and so when I fully forayed into interior design, it felt natural.
  3. What is your first jewellery memory?
My grandma would always send us jewellery from Nigeria whenever my dad would visit her. I still remember receiving what can only be described as costume jewellery whilst in primary school and wearing the clip on earrings and just feeling like the coolest kid ever.
  4. Is there a piece of jewellery that is particularly special to you?
There’s not a specific piece as I love to try new things too much but generally speaking my relationship with simply bracelets; whether it’s a gold bangle or chain, there’s something that I find so vibey and sentimental about it & now that I think about it, it could be because my dad used always wear one when I was a kid.
  5. What is the one piece of jewellery that you think automatically elevates your outfit when going out?
Earrings! Oh my goodness earrings. They are so magical! I’ll never understand how they make everything look good, obviously you need the right pair but (for example) wearing the Christy Earrings, whether it’s with  a gown or jeans & a t-shirt, I feel like my outfit will immediately become chic & elevated.
  6. Who are women who inspire you?
Cliche but my mum for sure; she’s so chill, kind and level headed whilst excelling in her career, raising 4 kids and literally remembering everyone under the suns birthday. I think & reflect on how much attention to detail she pays & her genuine kindness a lot.
  7. How does jewellery play a part in your everyday life?
I have the tendency to dress quite casually and so I rely on jewellery to really elevate my looks. Earrings are my go-to. There’ll be days when I’m literally wearing an old top & baggy cashmere trousers and I put some earrings on and I’m like “damn girl” - true story.
  8. When you think of Daphine what comes to mind?
Hmm, I picture a sophisticated modern woman who has impeccable taste.

TIPS & TRICKS

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably, snug enough so that it will not fall off but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance.

For best results measure your finger size at the end of the day and when your fingers are their largest.

Don’t measure when your body temperature is either too cold or too hot. Only measure when fingers are at room temperature.

If you hesitate between two sizes, always go with the larger one.

If you are purchasing a wide band, you will be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement.
