Tell us about yourself
Hiyaa! Where do I start…I’m Davina, a born and bred Londoner (we are pretty rare these days…I think). I am married and the mother to two gorgeous boys all of whom I live with in East London. I am a brand, strategy and communications specialist, currently working at Karla Otto London. I love shopping, spinning, reading, laughing (until my cheeks hurt) good food and spending time with my loved ones.
In what ways do you think motherhood has had an influence on your style?
Whilst motherhood hasn’t changed my style, it has made me more relaxed - for example, I no longer sweat the small stuff like my freshly pressed shirt getting creased, or my cream jeans getting a dirt mark on them - all of which are unavoidable with a 2 year old and newborn!
If you could wear one thing ever again, what would it be and why?
This is such a tricky question - I never leave the house without earrings so I guess, it has to be earrings right?! I’ve never really thought about why to be honest, I feel like earrings frame and brighten your face - for me, they are a bit like eyebrows, you know how everything feels off but then you get your eyebrows done and all is right again, earrings, for me, do the same. On the very rare occasion I forget to put a pair on, I have been known to go buy a pair.
What is your first jewellery memory?
Awww! It’s got to be when I was given my charm bracelet (a Christmas present) and my very first diamond (ring) for my 13th birthday. My family have always been jewellery (and fragrance) obsessed, I can’t remember a Christmas/birthday where we weren’t given a piece of jewellery. My ring really reminds me of the pin/broach that Isabella Rossellini who plays Lisle von Rhuman gives to Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in the movie, Death Becomes Her.
Is there a piece of jewellery that is particularly special to you? If yes, why?
The first items that spring to mind are my “push” presents that my husband Dean bought for me after the birth of our two boys - both rings, one a rounded “curtain ring” in rose gold, and the second, a platinum and diamond classic eternity ring. These along with my wedding rings are very special to me as they mark some of the most significant moments in my life.
Who are women who inspire you in your life?
Cliche but true - my mum and my friends for a number of different reasons; excelling in their careers, leaping into the world of freelance, starting a business, giving, thoughtful, selfless, juggle kids and a career like a boss, for challenging and championing me, for their strength and humility - I could go on! I’m also obsessed with Paloma Elsesser and Tracee Ellis Ross - women of colour who are incredibly smart, stylish, comfortable in their skin, who champion other women and speak out about issues that matter despite the possible consequences.
How would you describe your style?
I feel like my style is pretty classic, minimalist and tonal, with a focus on clean lines and an oversized silhouette with an occasional sporty twist. Oh and I love a statement earring!
When you think of Daphine what comes to mind?
Weirdly (or not) I see the woman who wears it - effortlessly chic, smart and stylish with impeccable taste.
What are some of the lessons you have learned over the last year?
It's ok to say no sometimes. Know your worth. It’s good to push yourself and do things outside of your comfort zone. Look for the positive in negative situations - whatever they may be. Understand that not all friendships are the same, learn the purpose of each and everyone and embrace them for what they are. You can’t help everyone and solve their problems and that’s ok. It’s ok to do nothing sometimes. Time - embrace it and spend it wisely, it’s one of the only things you can’t get back.
