DaphineDays

We spoke to Kids O'Clock Founder & CEO Laura Vidrequin about her jewellery stories. Equipped with a disposable camera, she took us on a day in her life.

  1. Tell us about yourself
I am Laura, Albert's mum and founder of Kids O'Clock. I am extremely optimistic, a bit too much, which drives my family nuts. I am a do-er, I love junk food, was born in Paris but lived in NY for 10 years. I now live in London where I launched a global resell platform dedicated to kids items.
  2. What is your first jewellery memory?
At the age of 13, I got a Tiffany bracelet from my parents, I still have it. It is just such an important piece in my jewellery box, it brings me back to 18 years ago. Oof. I love everything about it, it was given after a big exam I had to go through at school, which I did pass.
  3. Is there a piece of jewellery that is particularly special to you?
My son's birth bracelet, it's a little medaille engraved with his birth date and name. It's so fragile and special, I'm almost thinking about having another one done, not to wear this one and increase the chances of losing it.
  4. What is the one piece of jewellery that you think automatically elevates your outfit when going out?
Perfect little hoop earrings or a vintage gold chain necklace. I have a bit of an obsession here.
  5. Who are women who inspire you in life?
My mum and sister, they are very different than me, from style to entire vibes or personality but I constantly find myself thinking "what would she do" - "what would she wear". I have my close girlfriends as well, which I choose for their values and their loyalty/ kindness, and it's to me the most important personality trait one could have.
  6. How does jewellery play a part in your everyday life?
A bit of love/ hate. I can go weeks without wearing anything and all of a sudden decide I can't go anywhere with 5 gold bangles. It is a bit of a weird relationship.
  7. When you think of Daphine what comes to mind?
Clean, modern, a good lemonade in the sunshine. Just nice and easy.
  8. What are some of your goals for 2022?
Better balancing personal and professional, I am the queen of putting work first.
  9. Is sustainability important to you?
A big bold YES. I am thinking of registering for a Master in Sustainability at school soon actually.
  10. How do you balance life as a mother and entrepreneur?
It's a hard one and I don't think balancing has been an easy task for me. I spend most of my weeks at the office, however we wake up early and I have 3 hours in the morning with Albie. I have a hard stop at 6:40pm to go home and have diner with Albie, once he is asleep I'm back on Kids O'Clock. Weekends are also time carved out for him. To be honest, I don't think I'm good at balance, but everything I do is with so much passion and tolerance towards him that it makes up for the pick-ups I'm not doing at school.
  11. What does your day to day look like?
We are early birds. The house is full speed at 6:30, Albie and I enjoy a nice breakfast and even some arts and crafts. After drop off at 9am, I go to the office where I meet the team. Between zoom calls, blue sky meetings or 1 on 1, the day goes by so quickly! I'm back at 6pm or so, and spend 2 hours with Albie and my husband. Once Albie is asleep, I'm trying to be better at doing some me time: a book, some cooking, a phone call to a friend or a bath. Lately, it has been a lot about emails and work, but you can't have it all. We just launched an app and it's requiring a lot of attention. I'm lucky I don't feel like I'm working when I am - so I am rarely grumpy!

TIPS & TRICKS

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably, snug enough so that it will not fall off but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance.

For best results measure your finger size at the end of the day and when your fingers are their largest.

Don’t measure when your body temperature is either too cold or too hot. Only measure when fingers are at room temperature.

If you hesitate between two sizes, always go with the larger one.

If you are purchasing a wide band, you will be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement.
